UNILAG Students of Mariere Hall have lamented over the “unhealthy nature” of the hostel.
The invasion by toilet and drainage water has extended to rooms of students and is posing a major health challenge, ANN gathers.
“We can’t sit and wait until a student gets sick again or, God forbid pass away as a result of this before decisive action is taken,” a source told ANN.

“This has been the situation of things for students coming from B wing floor level in Mariere Hall, a hostel in the University of Lagos. We understand that this dirty water is also coming from the drainages and toilets of other hostels around Mariere too, like Moremi, Erastus Postgraduate hall…”
According to reports, the situation has been like this for over six years but got worse late 2021;
“The situation has been like this for years, and students are now falling sick, he said.
Although, an anonymous source has said that the students affairs directorates “promised to resolve the issue” after complaints have been made on various occasions.
“They [the Directorates] got a new machine to pump the dirty water out. But it worked for only a week or two, because eventually there so called new machine got spoilt.”
The students urged the school management to come to their aid.
In their word, “We are reaching out because we can’t take the situation any longer. Maybe, the management needs external assistance to facilitate the process to a lasting solution”, he wrote.
