The Ogun state police command has arrested a herder with an AK-47 rifle in Ogun State.
The suspect in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi was identified as Mohammed.
The suspect was said to have been arrested following information received by the Divisional police officer Imeko divisional headquarters, that a young Fulani herder was sighted at CAC Oha forest Iwoye Ketu in Imeko Afon Local Government Area with an Ak-47 rifle.
The command’s spokesman noted that the DPO quickly mobilised his men, other stakeholders, the hunters, vigilante men, so safe corps and stormed the said forest.
“After hours of combing the forest, the suspect was seen hiding in the bush with one AK-47 rifle, and he was promptly arrested,” he said
According to him the suspect is strongly believed to be a member of kidnap syndicates who has been terrorising the area for quite some time now.
He however added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation
“The police commissioner has also directed that the entire forest be properly combed with the view to apprehend other members of his gang”
