Widow humiliated over daughter’s death in Anambra

A widow identified as Mrs Ozoemena in the Uga community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, was, on Saturday, reportedly abused and humiliated by some villagers who suspected she had a hand in her daughter’s death.

The said daughter was said to have died on Friday night. Some villagers, who believed that her death was untimely, suspected that her mother might have had a hand in her death, and some youths in the area reportedly pounced on her  and asked her to confess. The woman, however, claimed innocence.

“I am innocent ooo! I don’t have a hand in my daughter’s death. Why would I kill my own daughter? She is my daughter, I am innocent!” she lamented.

Throughout the period the brouhaha lasted, the accused person, at some point, was reportedly forced to carry her daughter’s body on her laps while seated on the ground.

It was gathered that the youths later took the body to the mortuary for preservation even as they demanded that investigation should be carried out to ascertain the cause of her death.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state,  Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for reactions.
