WHO Celebrates 75th Anniversary In Awka

As part of commemorating 75th Year Anniversary, The Anambra Field Office of the World Health Organization (W.H.O) has organized a rally and free medical outreach to celebrate their historic achievements in Awka.

The ceremony which brought together, health care professionals and volunteers from the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA) and the WHO Field Office (FO) in Awka, started with a road walk from the Sir Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex To Aroma Junction.

Free medical checkups and consultations at both the State Secretariat Complex and Aroma formed the highlight of the celebration.

Speaking briefly to newsmen on behalf of the State Coordinator, the State Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (M&E),  Mr. Ndubuisi Orji stated that the anniversary is commensurate to the landmark achievements of the organization in improving health services to humanity over the years.

According to him, the organization has played a key role in ensuring improved surveillance, remuneration and strengthening of health care service delivery in many countries of the world, Nigeria to mention a few.

These policies has also encouraged the organization to partner with Anambra State Government to set up systems, strategies and coordinating platforms to ensure that nuclear diseases (PPDs) are nipped at the bud by ensuring adequate training for health workers to ensure wider coverage in health care service delivery in the state for prompt interventions, he said.

In a goodwill message, the Anambra State Commissioner for health, Dr. Afam Obidike appreciated WHO for their numerous interventions, sacrifices and support to the people of Anambra and wish them a happy 75th Anniversary Cerebration.

In her separate remarks, the executive secretary of Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Pharm Chisom Uchem while appreciating WHO for her all round intervention activities and health care support in the state, congratulated the organization for its laudable achievements and wish them a happy celebration.

Appreciating, a realtor, Enyeama Sunday and a commuter, Onovo Denise Samuel who were beneficiaries of the free medical consultations equally expressed their excitement, they commended the organization for intervening promptly in alleviating the health challenge of the people, stating that the exercise is a welcome development. They however emphasized on more of the significant impact it will have on the health system of the people if encouraged to continue.

They advised the state government to collaborate more with WHO in ensuring better health care services to the people of the State.

Other key note members of the organization who were present at the exercise includes; The State Consultant For Cholera Disease and Control, Dr. Moses Ohameme, State Surveillance Officer, Dr. Haruna Daniel Musa, State Consultant on COVID-19 , Mallam Muhammad Shehu, Nurses, amongst others.
