* In the quest to complement Anambra State government’s effort in providing education for Ndi Anambra, Osnon Academy, a free secondary school for indigent students, will be flagged off in September this year. ANN reports that a member of the governing board of Chude and Ego Foundation, Professor Maris Umego disclosed this when a team from the school paid a courtesy call on the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Profesor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, at her office in Awka.

* The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra State Chapter, has decried the condition of pensioners in the state, stating that many of them are dying without being paid the retirement benefits. The state chairman of NLC, Emeka Nwafor while speaking in Awka,  commended the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, for his efforts in workers’ welfare. Nawfor however, implored the governor to look into the case of retirees in the state who he said were dying without receiving their gratuities.

* The Anambra State government has urged Petroleum Products Marketers operating in the state to give the state government necessary support to serve them better by being alive to their civic responsibilities.

Speaking after the Anambra State Joint Petroleum Enforcement Team of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources monitored some petrol stations in the three Senatorial Districts of the state, the Commissioner, Barrister Tony Ifeanya announced that the Enforcement Team has embarked on recovery of 2022 Consolidated Petroleum Product Fees owed to the State Government by Petroleum Products Marketers across the three Senatorial Districts of the State tagged “Operation Show Evidence of your payment 2022 and 2023”. He said they have as well commenced issuing of Demand Notice for payment of same levy for this year 2023.

* Anambra State Fire Service joined its counterparts across the globe to commemorate the 2023 International Firefighters Day, recording another milestone in its service delivery. The State Fire Service celebrated the day with a road show which commenced from its headquarters at Agu-Awka, through Arroma Junction, down to Regina Caeli Junction, UNIZIK temporally site, and Kwata junction. Speaking to Journalists at the State Headquarters Awka,  the Fire Chief of the state, Engineer Martin Agbili, said the celebration gave them a chance to honour firefighters across the world.

* Members of the prestigious “Tornado Club” have converged at Abacha town, Idemili North Local Government Area, for their 2023 annual convention. The convention attracted members of the club from different parts of the country, who reunited as old friends and deliberated on matters of national importance. The convention kicked off with an opening address by the President of the club, Chief Ndukwe Duroha, who welcomed members to the event and set the tone for the discussions to come.

* Police Operatives attached to Central Police Station, Onitsha have rescued six accident victims of a fatal motor accident that occurred along the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway by defunct Nitel Office, Onitsha. The Operatives provided financial support for the treatment, while five of the victims are responding to medical treatment. Unfortunately, one was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty. The operatives also recover one Howo truck with Reg Nos: AWK 899 ZQ, One diahatsu shuttle bus with Reg nos AKL 978 and one Mitsubishi L300 bus with Reg nos SKA 439 XA.

* Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has requested the All- Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, faithful to always prioritize the collective interest of the party over personal gains. The Deputy Governor made the call during Obizi APGA Stakeholders Forum at Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area. Obizi Forum is an umbrella body that unites seven communities in Awka South, namely Nibo, Nise, Amawbia, Mbaukwu, Isiagu, Umuawulu, and Awka.

* The Anambra State police operative, attached to Ogbunike Division, Oyi Local Government Area in responding to a distress call along St Monica College Ogbunike road, has successfully arrested one Mr. Jamui Emiron aged 22 years and recovered one already damaged yellow Mitsubishi L300 bus with Anambra Registration No: UKP 729 A.

This was disclosed by the State Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochi who noted that the apprehended suspect was among a gang of armed robbers that attacked and robbed occupants of a residential building in Ezi-Ogidi where the hoodlums allegedly abducted a female victim, but luck ran out on the criminal gang en-route their den as police were alerted.

* The Accountant General of Anambra State, Dr Chukwudi Okoli has charged management and staff of various Micro finance Banks in Anambra State to work towards strengthening small scale businesses in their catchment areas. Speaking at Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area during the official inauguration of Gosifechukwu Microfinance Bank Limited for business transactions, Dr Okoli maintained that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to improving small scale businesses in order to create a bright and secured future for the people.

* Chairman, Sports Development Commission, Mr. Patrick-Estate Onyedum says no fewer than fifteen thousand pupils and students in public and private schools would participate in the maiden Anambra Sports Solution Initiative, ASSI, school sports festival. Onyedum who disclosed this in Awka at an interactive session with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Anambra State chapter recently, said the competition, which was grouped into Under 13 and Under 17 categories, was open to all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.
