Using Electronics To Collect Tax In Anambra Will Prevent Loss Of Funds: Ezeilo

Dr. Greg Ezeilo, a Mathematician from the University of Benin, Benin City has assured Ndi Anambra that using electronics to drive tax collection in the state will help to prevent the loss of funds to illegal tax collectors, as well as reduce unwarranted deaths during the process of collection of taxes at various locations across the state.

ANN reports that the newly appointed Executive Director by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the State Board of Internal Revenue, while discussing the topic, “Using Electronics to Drive Tax Collections in Anambra State” during a tax awareness program on radio, explained that Anambra State Government will introduce electronic trackers to track trucks coming into Anambra State with goods.

He further said the tracker would weigh the loads the truck is carrying electronically and generate the rate the truck driver would pay at various kiosks provided by the government. 

Dr. Ezeilo, a Mathematician from the University of Benin, Benin City, and a Ph.D. holder in Computer and Information System Security maintained that In a digital economy, the collection of taxes and levies is much easier and more convenient for the taxpayer and the Tax Authority. The process helps to eliminate all forms of illegal tax collection especially when an expert is in charge of driving the process.

Ezeilo who has skills in Computer forensics and IT Security, Network Security, Information Security Management, and IT Audit, explained that the amount generated electronically to be paid by the truck drivers, would go directly into the Anambra State Government Account.

He also said that at various payment locations in the State, pinhole cameras would be provided by the government at the payment stand to capture those that collect money illegally from unsuspecting truck drivers. The pictures from the pinhole cameras, he said would be transferred electronically to the screen of the Chairman of Anambra State Internal Revenue Service and that of the governor. 

Dr. Ezeilo assured Ndi Anambra that using electronics to drive tax collection will not pose any problem as it will prevent internet hackers from stealing revenue from going into the government account. He said Firewall will be used to prevent hackers from sabotaging the efforts.
