* Rotary International, District 9142 has commenced its 2023 Synergizer Conference in Awka aimed at sensitizing the public on its activities. Representatives of the organization who made this known in Awka enumerated the activities to include polio vaccination, providing service to the masses, promoting integrity and advancing the world’s understanding, goodwill, and restoring peace in the society.

* The Archbishop of the Onitsha Archdiocese, the Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has urged Christians to always do the sign of the cross as that is a way of blessing ourselves. Archbishop

Okeke while speaking in Onitsha  maintained that the sign of the cross is a Christian response to the mystery of human suffering. He further explained that whenever we make the sign of the cross, we are in dialogue with God. 

* The menace of illegal structures all over Anambra State has become of huge concern, and government has resolved to deal with the nuisance posed by these unapproved shacks. A release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, stated that a sustainable Clean and Green Anambra can only be guaranteed by removing the odious presence of the illegal structures on the roads, streets, drainages, parks, playgrounds and waterways, as the drive for complete urban regeneration cannot continue to be desecrated by these structures.

* Oyi Local Government Area football team defeated their counterpart from Dunukofia by a lone goal in the maiden edition of Brainbox Football League organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in partnership with the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) for the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.

The encounter at the Awka City Stadium saw Paul Nnamdi’s solitary strike in the 48th minute for the Oyi side see off their opponents in a competition bankrolled by Brainbox Sports Foundation.

* Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, has alerted communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area to prepare to relocate to higher grounds to avert effects of 2023 impending flood. The Executive Secretary, SEMA, Sir Paul Odenigbo, gave the advice while interacting with community stakeholders and religious organizations at the council’s headquarters at Atani, ahead of the predicted 2023 deluge.

* The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Ibezim, has repeated his call on youths to shun violence and support the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo which has great plans for them and the entire Ndi Anambra. Ibezim repeated the call at Onitsha while addressing youths in the area recently. The deputy governor said that youths in the state have a lot to benefit from the present government. He reminded them of the need to desist from any act that can truncate the lofty plans of the government for them.

* The Transition Committee Chairman, Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr. Gerald Ozoh, has commended the maintenance and palliative works on the dilapidated portions of Igwe Ichida Road in Anaocha LGA. Mr. Ozoh who was on an inspection tour on the road with the Supervisory Councilor for Works, Mr. Stephen Iloka, and the Head of Department, Works, Anaocha LGA, Engr. Rita Ofojeama, said that the road was among the first sets of roads the local government marked for maintenance and rehabilitation. He noted that the decision to repair the failed portions of roads was to alleviate the sufferings of road users in the area.

* Chairman, Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi has commended the Brainbox Sports Foundation for their magnanimity in accepting to bankroll the football programme which is a brainchild of the NYCN. He emphasized that the ANSFA was set up to support such initiative and provide immense technical support in ensuring that the competition is hitch free from the start to the termination of the event.

*Anambra State Government will in no distant time graduate four thousand youths in different vocations of choice to enable them fend for themselves.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba disclosed this when the top officials of the Ministry of Youth interfaced with the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the review of the implementation of the 2023 budget of the ministry recently

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka, His Lordship, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, has scheduled a date for a magnificent send-off of his erstwhile auxiliary, His Lordship, Most Rev Dr. Jonas Benson Okoye, now bishop of Nnewi Diocese. The event will take place on the Saturday, 20th May, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka by 3.00pm. ‘His Lordship, Bishop Okoye, had requested for a very low key event, even a private send-off,’ Bishop Ezeokafor had said, indicating that he and Awka Diocese would not have what he described as a Nichodemus celebration in honour of such an illustrious son of Awka Diocese.
