* Anambra Communities have been urged to support efforts of the state government towards preventing and controlling erosion across the state. Speaking in Awka, the Chairman of the Committee in charge of erosion menace in some communities in Old Aguata and Agulu in Anaocha Council Area, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene called on the Federal government to be alive to its responsibilities by intervening on gully erosion sites threatening various parts of Anambra State and entire Southeast region.

* The TC Chairman of Anaocha LGA, Hon Gerald Ikechukwu Ozoh has witnessed the swearing-in of the newly appointed Councillors in Anaocha LGA at the Local Government Secretariat, Neni.

The former Councillors, Hon Chika Igah and Hon Chidozie Chikwelu were replaced by the newly appointed Councillors, Hon Moses Ozoh C. and Hon Nwabuike Chukwujejwu A.  from Adazi-Ani and Agulu wards in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State. The tenure of the transitional committee as approved by the state assembly was for three months after which they can be renewed or fresh appointment be made.

* A member of National Youth Service Corps( NYSC), Nnamdi Daniel Emeh, who allegedly stole N47m, has been remanded in Awka Correctional Centre, Anambra State.

It was gathered that he is facing 16 count charges in court, including fraud, defamation of character, impersonation. Emeh, a serving corps member was working as an IT consultant to Anambra State Police Command, and was attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu. Emeh was declared wanted for impersonation, where he claimed to be a police officer with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police. He was also accused of money laundering and illegal possession of arms.

* In line with the Anambra State human capital  development programme, the Anambra State  Directorate, National Orientation  Agency (NOA), Awka, and a Non-Governmental Organization “Love Givers Initiative,” have signed  

Memorandum of Understanding to embark on  empowerment programme for indigent women  and girl child in three flood prone Communities  in the State through Global Fund.

* A federal high court sitting in Awka, presided over by Justice Fatun Riman has adjourned till May 18, 2023, the case of murder and related cases against one Nnamdi Obi of Akamanator village, Ivite Nteje, Oyi council area.

The Presiding judge, Justice Riman, after hearing the prayers and pleas from both the plaintiffs and defendant’s counsel, ordered that the accused be remanded in the police custody, till May 18, when the court will rule on the issue of bail.

*The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Hon. ChuksBrown Igboanua has commended the governor over his benevolence to the students of Urban Girls Secondary School, Fegge Onitsha. Soludo who recently went on on-the-spot assessment of the school, undertook the school fees of two thousand, three hundred and fifty students of the school. According to Igboanua, the governor’s gesture was a testament for his love for the state, and quality education in general as what he has done will help immensely to rekindle the zeal for academic excellence by the students.

* The Chief Executive Officer of BrainBox Sports Foundation, Mr Chinenye Akpuezeugo has disclosed that the ongoing BrainBox League in Anambra state will not be a one-off thing but will be nurtured to become an annual event.

Akpuezugo, who spoke through Ifeanyichukwu Nwoye, Manager, BrainBox Sports Foundation, also revealed plans to expand the scope of the league to national level.

* A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has dismissed a suit filed by the Anambra State Government challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC’s power to investigate its finances, describing it as factually and forensically lacking in merit.

The State government had approached the court presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba to determine whether under the Federal System of Government, with the constitutional doctrine of Separation of Powers, “the appropriation, disbursement and or administration of funds belonging to a State Government is subject to investigation by the EFCC being an agency of the Federal Government”

* Meanwhile, a group of Women Rights Activists, has staged a peaceful protest to condemn the unwholesome widowhood practice of forcing a widow to drink the water used in washing the corpse of her dead husband at a community in Atani, Ọgbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. The Women who gathered in their numbers, before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court of Anambra State, sitting at the Chief Magistrate’s Court Awka, were seen holding placards with bold inscriptions, such as: “Stop Violence Against Women and Girls in Anambra State”, “Ọgbaru Men and Women, allow our Widows Some Peace”, Stop All Obnoxious Laws and Harmful Widowhood Practices in Anambra State”, among other inscriptions.
