The immediate past Managing Director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Chief George Moghalu says has expressed happiness over the return of the abducted former Bishop of Nnewi Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Godwin Izundu Okpala
Angel Network News (ANN) recall that the former Archbishop was kidnapped at Umuchu with his deiver.
Reacting after Okpala’s release, Moghalu wrote: ‘I am happy to welcome Archbishop GIN Okpala (Rtd), former Bishop of Nnewi Anglican Communion, back home. His abduction was a devastating blow to the people of Anambra State.
“Unfortunately, the security situation in Anambra State has deteriorated under Governor Prof Charles Soludo’s administration. Despite my repeated calls to address the collapse of our security architecture, the government has failed to take decisive action.
“Regrettably, another kidnapping incident occurred yesterday evening, Tuesday, 7th January 2024, involving two Reverend Sisters, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli. Sister Vincentia, the Principal of Archbishop Charles Heerey Memorial Model Secondary School, Ufuma, and Sister Grace, a teacher at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School, Nnewi, were kidnapped along Ufuma Road while returning from a vocational association meeting at Ogboji.
“These recurring incidents of kidnapping and insecurity are unacceptable and highlight the urgent need for a new approach to security in Anambra State.
“It is clear that we need a new approach to security. Many states have successfully employed technology-driven policing methods, and I see no reason why Anambra State cannot do the same.
“I want to assure Ndi-Anambra that if given the opportunity, we will adopt a new approach to tackling insecurity in our state. We will prioritize the welfare and training of our security personnel, reorganize local Vigilantes to be more efficient, leverage technology to enhance policing, and engage with local communities to build trust and foster cooperation.
“Anambra State deserves better. We need effective security arrangements to drive meaningful development.
“I sympathize with Archbishop Okpala, the Reverend Sisters, and all victims of insecurity in our state. I am confident that with determination and the right leadership, we can overcome our current challenges.
