Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dismissed reports suggesting he has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claim as “false and misleading.”
Otti made the clarification while addressing journalists in Umuahia on Monday, insisting he remains committed to the ideals of the Labour Party and its promise of good governance in Abia.
“I have not joined the APC, and I have no such intention,” Otti stated firmly. “My focus remains on fulfilling the mandate freely given to me by the people of Abia State under the Labour Party.”
The governor’s response followed speculation on social media that he had aligned with the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 elections. His media team said the rumours were being “peddled by political opponents who feel threatened by the administration’s reforms.”
Otti reiterated that his administration’s priorities are improving infrastructure, reviving industries, and ensuring transparency in governance, not party politics.
“Those waiting for my defection will have to wait forever,” he added.
The Labour Party in Abia also released a statement reaffirming Otti’s membership, noting that “no amount of propaganda will derail the people’s government.”
The clarification comes as Nigeria’s political landscape heats up with shifting alliances and early maneuverings ahead of the 2027 general elections.
