Abia State Governor Alex Otti has defended his earlier assertion that former Anambra governor Peter Obi left 155 million dollars in three banks at the end of his tenure.
Otti said he stood firmly by the statement. “I stand by my statement, Peter Obi left $155m in three banks,” he declared.
The governor recalled that he had advised Obi in his former capacity as a bank chief executive. “I advised him as bank CEO then to leave it in dollars, not naira,” Otti stated.
Responding to counter-claims by Anambra Governor Charles Soludo, Otti maintained that those remarks did not undermine his account. “Soludo’s claims do not invalidate what I wrote,” he said.
He further challenged the Anambra State government to release relevant records if the figures were disputed. “If otherwise, Anambra Govt should publish the debts,” Otti added.
The comments form part of an ongoing public exchange among the three political figures over the state of Anambra’s finances during and after Obi’s administration.
