Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) through its Development Control Unit, on Wednesday removed and dismantled illegal structures and shanties at the the Government Residential Area (G.R.A), back of the new Government House and Lodge Awka, Anambra State Capital.
The Deputy Commander of the Development Unit, Mr. Nkwachukwu Okonkwo, speaking to newsmen shortly after the exercise said that what they have done is part of the development control mandate of the agency to ensure that buildings and structures are legally constructed and at the right place.
Okonkwo explained that the agency has earlier given stop work order to those trying to connervialize the G.R.A but they ignored the order and continued with their work, adding that their officials had been attacked by some people working in one of the buildings they served a stop work order.
He pointed out that the agency will continue to discharge its duties effectively and efficiently despite threats they receive on daily basis from outlaws in Awka Capital Territory, and made it clear that any structure on top of water channel or without approval must be removed.
The ACTDA officials also removed Zenith Maternity Hospital at Inenzu Estate Okpuno Awka which was illegally built after ignoring stop work order served them on multiple occasions
Mr. Okonkwo maintained that the agency under the leadership of Mr. Ossy Onuko who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, will continue to implement Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s policies and programmes in its effort to build a liveable, secure and prosperous homeland, as well as to make Awka, a smart mega city.

the agency also removed an illegally built structure at Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.
