AFCON: Brentford Praises Onyeka After Making History At Club

Premier League club, Brentford has heaped praises on their Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka after he made history by becoming the club’s first-ever player to feature in a major tournament final like the Africa Cup of Nations, ANN reports.

Onyeka was one of the Eagles standout players at the tournament where he started all seven games en route to the AFCON final the team lost 2-1 to host Ivory Coast.

“Frank Onyeka – the first Brentford player ever to feature in a major tournament final. Proud,” Brentford wrote on X.

Onyeka joined Brentford in July 2021 from anish club FC Midtjylland, Onyeka has become a crucial player in Thomas Frank’s side, making 41 Premier League appearances.

In 2023, the 26-year-old who was linked with a loan move to Everton, Fulham and several clubs overseas signed a new four-year contract at Brentford, with an option for an additional year.

Reacting to his extension, Brentford coach, Thomas Frank is thrilled to have the Nigeria international on board, “I’m very pleased that Frank has signed a new contract. He has helped the team a lot during our time in the Premier League.

“During both seasons he has been unlucky with injuries, which have prevented him from taking an even bigger step forward in terms of minutes, but I like his energy.

“Frank is a great pressing player. He runs into the half-spaces and in behind, progressing up the pitch.

“He’s a very important player for us and we’re looking forward to continuing the journey with him.”
