Aisha Yesufu Warns Nigerians Against “Quick Fixes” Amid Trump’s Threat

Activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised Nigerians for seeking external solutions to domestic problems in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s purported threats toward Nigeria, saying such reliance undermines accountability.

In a message shared on her verified X handle, Yesufu wrote: “As usual, Nigerians will want to abdicate their responsibilities of holding government accountable because now Trump is coming to save them.”

She went on to caution against dependency on foreign powers, reminding Nigerians: “We are always looking for quick fixes. Just so you know, Saudi Arabia and China are also considered Countries of Particular Concern.”

Trump had earlier stated that if Nigeria fails to address the killing of Christians, the United States may consider pressure or action. His claim triggered fierce reactions in Nigeria from both political and civil society circles.

Yesufu’s remarks reflect a broader tension between calls for international intervention and demands for domestic responsibility in addressing Nigeria’s security, governance, and religious violence challenges.
