Mr Rotimi Amaechi is Igbo (if he truly believes it). But the presidency is not rotated in Nigeria based on ethnicity but based on zone.
Although where a president comes from “does not matter” and a president does not change the fortunes of his zone, in 2023 it will be the turn of the Southeast to produce the president.
Dr Goodluck Jonathan has taken the turn of the Southsouth. Sadly, Amaechi was the arrowhead from the Southsouth that ensured that Jonathan did not get the full eight years like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo got for the Southwest and Maj Gen Muhammadu Buhari is getting for the Northwest.
Even if Buhari and others decide to choose their stooge from the Southeast as president to protect their interests, in 2023 it will be the turn of the Southeast to produce the president of Nigeria.
Even if they choose an Igbo from Rivers, Delta or Benue in 2023, it will still be on record that the Southeast has not taken its turn to produce the president, and the Southeast will continue to point out that injustice. After all, a Fulani from Kwara State cannot take the turn of the Northwest to produce the president neither can a Yoruba from Kogi State take the turn of the Southwest.
No matter how hard you try to spin your logic, you cannot hide behind a finger.
