Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to as a matter of urgency direct the commissioner for works to embark on reparation of Amansea-Ebenebe Ezu bridge which is on the verge of collapsing so as to prevent the people from being cut off from other neugbouring community.
Chief sponsor of the motion Hon. Chimezie Ekwunne in his submission maintained that the said road is the only major entrance to Ebenebe community through the Amansea-Ebenebe Ezu bridge road.
Hon. Ekwunne who is the member representing Awka North constituency revealed that the bridge is in a very critical stage and might possibly collapse if not given utmost and paramount attention.
In his words”This bridge harbors the only road connecting Ebenebe community to other neighbouring communities in Awka North LGA.
“If this bridge which is the gateway to Ebenebe and other communities is not repaired but allowed to collapse, the possibility of cutting off Ebenebe from every other communities in Awka North is highly inevitable.
” This bridge was constructed by the former Governor of Anambra State Mr. Peter Obi and connects five communities in Awka North.
” The bridge got collapsed by the construction company that was working at their and for many years now and it has subjected ndi Awka North to difficulties.
“My constituents paddle boat before they can come to Awka and this condition has affected commercial activities because as food basket of Anambra state, we find it difficult to transport our goods and farm products to market and other parts.
“The condition of this bridge stops visitors from attending functions and events in this five communities”. Hon. Ikwunne lamented.
Hon Jude Umennajego, Hon. Nobel Igwe, Hon. Emma Nwafor, Majority leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Henry Mbachu, Deputy Majority leader Hon. Jude Akpua, Hon. Chidi Ibemeka while speaking in favour of the motion, urged Governor Soludo to intervane.
According to the lawmakers ” A stitch in time saves nine. If we allow this bridge to collape totally, it will cost the state more in constructing a new one.
“If Anambra state government don’t intervane now, alot of economic activities will be jorpadised. This is a call for Governor Chukwuma Soludo to give this bridge an urgent attention”.
