Anambra 7th Assembly Holds Last Plenary With Valedictory Session

Anambra state house of assembly led by Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor on Thursday June 8, 2023 held its last plenary.

The speaker in his valedictory speech thanked his colleagues for finding him worthy to lead them in the past four years.

“We have all been privileged and honoured to be trusted with the task of representating our different constituencies in the last four years. Let me in all modesty say that the 7th Anambra State House of Assembly achieved some measures of success in the areas of the number of Bills that were passed, Motions moved, in our oversight functions and in our legislative duties.

“We passed over Fifty people-oriented Bills. Some landmark Bills passed include, but not limited to; Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Establishment Bill, Anambra State Youth Development and Empowerment Commission Bill, Awka Capital Development Authority Bill, Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery Bills, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Amendment Bill, Anambra State Public Procurement Bill, Anambra State Agency for Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change Bill, Anambra State Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation Agency Establishment Bill as well as the Public Finance Bill.

“Other Bills passed by the 7” Assembly include, Anambra State Legislative Fund Management Bill, Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission Bill, Anambra State Judiciary Fund Management Bill, Open Grazing of Cattle and other Livestock Prohibition And Ranches Establishment Bills, Anambra State Hydraform and Concrete Agency Establishment Bill, Anambra State Leisure Parks and Street
Beautification Agency Bill, Covid 19 and other Dangerous Diseases Prevention and Eradication Bill, Riverine Areas Development Commission Establishment Bills, Magistrate’s Court Bill, Administration of Criminal Justice Bill, Anambra State Information and Communication Technology Bill, as well as Four years Appropriation Bills, among others.

Anambra majority leader Rt. Hon Pete Ibida along side Beverly Nkemdichie, Obinna Emenka, Uzoma Eli, Ebele Ejiofor, Emma Nwafor, Nonso Smart Okafor, Charles Obimma, John Nwokoye, Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe, Sonny Ozobialu, Patrick Udoba, Somtochukwu Udeze, Carta Dike Umeh, Emeka Afoka, Ejike Okechukwu, Chidi Udemadu and the minority leader Onyebuchi Ofor, in their separate submissions expressed gratitude to their family, political party, constituency and supporters for the love, care, prayers and support.

” We thank the almighty God who through his mercy, honour and grace made it possible to witness the day. To him be all the glory. Every journey that has a begaining, must surly have an end.

” We thank the clerk and the staff of the house of assembly. We appreciate their effort, dedication and sacrifices. We will miss you all.

” We are fulfilled with our quality representation. We want to thank Governor Soludo for listening to our motions. The roads in Anambra are under construction.

“To all those we might have offended knowingly or unknowningly, we beg for forgiveness.

The staffs of this institution are wonderful people.

Deputy Governor Anambra state Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim who represented Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in his speech expressed gratitude to the members of the 7th assembly for their support and cordial relationship with the executive.

” This is a great institutions of learning. Despite the trying and difficult times faced by the 7th assembly, it did everything within its powers in supporting the present and previous administration through passing good bills, motion and also passing the budeget.

” We where kept on our toes through the over-sight functions of the 7th assembly. Thank you all for your selfless services. I want to thank the Speaker for piloting the affairs of the assembly with great wisdom. I wish you all well in your future endeavors”.
