A bill to amend the Anambra State local government administrative law and for other connected purposes has been passed.
The amendment was reflected at plenary on Tuesday through a mation moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Dr. Jude Akpua and was supported by the Minority Leader, Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi.
The lawmaker representing Aguata two, Tony Muobike noted that the law has empowered the security architecture of Anambra which has made the State more secured.
At the committee of the Whole, the necessary amendment where made, and was adopted through a voice vote from the lawmakers.
Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, noted that the law will take effect from May 5th 2026.
Angel Network News (ANN) recalls that the local government law which was passed in 2024 stipulates tenure of Mayor, deputy Mayors and Councillors and their functions.
The local government law also stipulates sources of revenues, annual budgets and responsibilities, powers and duties of auditors, declaration of assets and liabilities, functions of security and peace committee, establishment of local government service commission, composition of the commission and its functions, retirement age, code of conduct, secondment of government officials, deligation of powers by Governor, commissioners, etc
