Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Health to commence the establishment of general hospital in a land already donated for that purpose in Nnewi North local government area and to futher bring healthcare closer to the people.

The chief sponsor of the motion Hon. Augustine Onyekachukwu Ike while making his submission on Tuesday August 15, stated that the right to health is guaranteed under the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights.
According to Hon. Ike who is the member representing Nnewi North constituency, “Section 17 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, affirm that government shall provide adequate medical and health facilities for all persons.
” Health remains a crucial aspect of human existence and cannot be over emphasized. The establishment of General Hospital in Nnewi North LGA will further bring healthcare closer to the people.
” Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State can only boast of a Federal Teaching Hospital without a General hospital to reduce the loads of work for such an establishment.
” Nnewi is one of the densly populated town and most death are caused by poor drug administration and this is because of poor access to healthcare.
“The poor cannot easily access healthcare which have made them to go to chemist and drug stores. This situation has caused alot of damage on the organ of the poor and when they get critically ill, they will not be able to treat themselves.
” Ndi Nnewi are ready to work with the Governor in providing the infrastructure and we are urging Soludo to come to the rescue of ndi Nnewi by establishing this general hospital so that the average citizens can easily come and get a good drug prescriptions and standard medical attention so that they will be alive”. Hon. Ike submitted

” We have wealthy men in Nnewi that can partner with the government in establishing this General Hospital, which if achieved, will bring healthcare closer to the masses.
“The limited facility at the Nnewi teaching hospital is been presured and if this project sees the light of the day, it will be an alternative and will help in reducing the crowd and make people have easy access to healthcare facilities.
” Health is wealth and a healthy society is a sustaining society and for Anambra to be a leavable state, we need good health facilities.
” Delays in waiting to see a doctor can kill. No community is complate without hospital because health emergencies arise.
” The establishment of the Nnewi teaching hospital will create room for employment because more doctors, nurses and other workers will be employed.
“The japa syndrome will reduce if this General Hospital is established. Everyday we loss medical practitioners, who are leaving to europe and other places for greener pastures and it is a very sad development”. The lawmakers said
