Anambra Assembly Calls For Improved Ratings In Ease Of Doing Business

 Anambra House of Assembly has urge Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to direct the Commissioner for Lands, Professor Offornze Amucheazi to proactively secure land banks within and outside the state to improve the state’s ratings in ease of doing business in the country to further attract investors.

The lawmaker made the call through the member representing Njikoka one constituency, Hon. Chidiebele Ibemeka at plenary on Thursday.

Hon. Ibemeka in his submission maintained that the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), ranked Lagos State as the top state in Nigeria for ease of doing business in 2025 with a score of 85.6%, while Anambra State with a score of 63.5% was ranked 7th in the year under reference, indicating potential for improvement.

“Access to land and property is a critical factor in determining the ease of doing business, and securing land banks can significantly enhance state’s competitiveness as proactive land acquisition will enable the state government to offer ready-made industrial sites to investors, reducing the time and cost of setting up business;

“Despite the Land Use Act of 1978, land acquisition remains a major hurdle in the state probably because of the limited landmass of the state and thus the need for Mr. Governor to address family land issues and modernize land administration, leveraging the Land Use Act to facilitate land acquisition for development;

“Factual, that intentional improvement on the indices used by PEBEC for ranking states such as accessible land banks and ease of getting license permit, will improve the standing of the state in the state’s ranking of ease of doing business with a potential for attracting further investments, create jobs, and boost economic growth”
