Anambra State House of Assembly calls on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Transport as a matter of urgency complete installation of pedestrian signals across completed road intersections in the State.
The House made the resolution through a motion sponsored by the lawmaker representing Orumba South Constituency, Hon. Emma Nwafor.
Hon. Nwafor in his submission said pedestrian signals were introduced to control traffic both for pedestrians and vehicles at road intersections for free flow of traffic and safety of road users.
” The Governor has installed traffic lights at some strategic points and road intersections across the state albelt, not fully completed as the necessary pedestrian signals have not be installed.
” Soludo is still constructing roads at all
nooks and crannies of the state which will néed the full compliments of the traffic/pedestrians signal.
” Without the introduction of traffic lights and pedestrian signals, collisions of vehicles and human will always occur which eventually leads to death and or loss of properties.
“The installation of pedestrian signals will not only help in traffic control management but also make the job of traffic control and law enforcement officers easy”. Hon. Nwafor submitted.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Bernard Udemezue (Ayamelum), Hon. Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru One), Hon. Jude Akpua (Njikoka two), Golden Iloh (Ihiala two), Hon. Obi Nweke (Anambra East), Hon. Tony Muobike (Aguata two), Hon. Nigeria Mbachu ( Awka South one), Hon. Kingsley Udemezue (Idemili North) and Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme (Ekwusigo) stated that
the motion is going to safe life, reduce traffic confusion, less accident and improving efficiency.
Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, commended the sponsor of the motion.
