Anambra Assembly Calls For Installation Of Speed Breakers, Visual Signs Along Awka – Onitsha Express Way

Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Managing Director of the Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to instal speed breakers and visual warning signs at Agu Awka and Odumodu junction/ diversion at the intersection roads along the Awka – Onitsha express way.

The Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua who was the chief sponsor of the motion said the aformentioned junction along the Awka – Onitsha express have diversions as a result of the on-going reconstruction works on the express way and as such busy junctions.

Hon. Akpua who is the member representing Njikoka 2 constituency, maintained that the junctions have proven to be prone to frequent road traffic crashes and have resulted in the loss of lives and properties by road users who are mostly ndi Anambra

” Proposed speed breakers and visual warning signs will help avert and reduce these road accidents to the bearest minimum and as well save lives and properties .

“On the 1st of July 2023 there was a fital accident at Odumodu junction which claimed two lives on ndi Anambra as a result of over speeding by trucks. Within that period, the former speaker of the Anambra 7th assembly Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor escaped death at Agu Awka junction duo to high speed.

” Ndi Anambra who voted us as lawmakers looks up to us to enact laws that will protect their lives. We cannot continue to loose lives on this roads”.
Akpua said.

While supporting the motion, Member representing Awka North constituency, Hon. Chimezie Ikwunne. Member representing Oyi constituency, Hon. Innocent Ojike. Member representing Onitsha South one constituency, Hon. Fred Ezenwa. Member representing Ekwusigo constituency, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme. Member representing Aguata one constituency, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke. Member representing Onitsha South 2 constituency, Hon. Jude Umennajiego and Member representing Ihiala one constituency, Hon. Jude Njobili called for speed breakers and visual warning signs to be installed.
