The Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the commissioner of education to encourage more technical education in schools.

The member representing Anaocha two constituency Hon. Ejike Okechukwu the chief sponsor of the motion stated that technology drives the world and its breakthrough can be achieved majorly by encouraging young onces to learn technical subjects in schools.
According to Hon. Okechukwu “Technical colleges are not many in Anambra state compare to other secondary schools.
” If our educational system is gradually shifted from theory to skill based, classical technological revolution will soon be experienced in the state.
” The major challenge we have in this country and in Anambra state in particular is lack of employment and the major reason for unemployment is because most of our children make wrong choices in courses the study in school and they lack the required skills to be able to stand independently.
” If our educational system will focus more on skill base (technical education), students after graduation will be independent because they will be thought on things they can manufacture” Hon. Okechukwu submitted.
Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke, Hon. Kingsley Udemezue, Majority leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Obi Nweke,
Hon. Nigeria Henry Mbachu, Chief Whip Hon. Jude Njobili, Hon. Augustine Ike, Hon. Fred Ezenw, Deputy Majority leader Hon. Jude Akpua, Hon. Tony Moubuike and Hon. Chidiebere Ibemeka all spoke in support of the motion.
According to the lawmakers ” We have 266 secondary schools in Anambra State and if we can apply technical education in twenty percent of our schools, their will be a total turn around in the future of the youths.
” Let’s discover the skills of our children at their tender age. This will develop the economy, create job employment and opportunities.
” Anambra state government is doing well by initiating one youth two skills. No knowledge is a waste.
” The method of learning in our schools is becoming boring which is why we have unemployable graduates. We all need technical skills and knowledge becaus it is necessary and will act as an opportunity equalizer”.
Anambra assembly speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze on his part, appreciated the mover of the motion.
According to Udeze “It is a fact that the governor have done alot in areas of education especially with his recent policy statement on free and composery education in the state. Establishment of more technical schools will tackle the issue of unemployment among the youths. I sincerely join my voice for this important call”.
