Anambra Assembly Calls For Palliative Work At Modene Avenue, Iweka road, Ochanja Central Market, Onitsha

Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to as a matter of urgency direct the Anambra State Road Maintainance Agency (ARMA) to commence immediate palliative work at dilapidated spots at Modene Avenue and Iweka road particularly at the front of Ochanja central market, Onitsha for easy flow of traffic in Onitsha and metropolis.

Chief sponsor of the motion, Hon. Jude Umennajiego

The member representing Onitsha South two constituency Hon. Jude Umennajiego who is the chief sponsor of the motion in his submission revealed that the Modene Avenue and Iwehka Road at Onitsha have very high volume of traffic, due to robust economic and commercial activities in the different markets that these roads lead to.

According to Hon. Umennajiego, Onitsha is the economic nerve center of Anambra State, to the extent that you do not talk of Anambra economy without mentioning Onitsha. These roads link to the markets for which Anambra economy is known and from which humongous revenue is generated, including Ochanja Markets and Onitsha Main Market.

“The current condition of these roads is a serious impediment to free flow of traffic which in effect hampers commercial and economic activities as those involved in economic and other activities find it very difficult to get to their destination thorough these roads despite that these roads are major link roads to many important markets and institutions.

“These bad spots also allow hoodlums to attack innocent commuters who have the misfortune of moving in the night.

” The continucd bad state of these roads is a source of agony and discouragement to the business community and commercial city of Onitsha due to its impassably. It also negates and is a clog to conducive business environment which the state needs very much.

” The repairing of Iweka Roads and Modebe Avenue will ease traffic, boost economic activities, improve esthetics and the economy of Anambra State in general and Onitsha in particular, therefore improving the generation of revenue for the government.

“The state of this roads are in a bad condition but can be maintained. At this point, it is almost impossible for heavy duty vehicles to pass through this roads, therefore causing traffic.

“Doing palliative work on this roads makes life easy and will improve economic activities in the Onitsha and Anambra as a whole.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Patrick Okafor, Hon. Nobel Igwe, Deputy Minority leader Hon. Douglas Egbuna, Chief Whip Hon, Jude Ngobili, Hon. Anthony Muobike, Majority leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Augustine Ike, Minority Whip Hon. Paul Obu, Hon, Fredrick Ezenwa, Hon. Atuchukwu Nonso, Deputy Minority Whip Hon, Ogbuefi Nkechi and the Deputy Minority Leader Hon, Jude Akpua in their seperate submissions spoke in favour of the motion.

According to the legislators “We commend Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the road projects currently going on across the 21 local government in the state but some of this key spots are places that needs immediate attention.

” This is a life saving motion because this road is very important and hosts about twenty commercial banks”.

Anambra Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze while contributing, thanked Hon. Jude Umennajiego for the motion. Udeze urged and encouraged individuals to be involved in road maintenance in Anambra.
