Anambra Assembly Calls For Palliative Works On Akuzor Road Nkpor, Afor Nkpor-Eke Nkpor, Ugwu Nwasike-Abatete Roads

Anambra State House of Assembly has calls on Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to as a matter urgency, direct the Managing Director of Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to commence palliative work on the dilapidated portion of Akuzor road Nkpor, Afor Nkpor-Eke Nkpor road and Ugwu Nwasike-Abatete Road in Idemili North LGA to alleviate the suffering of road users.

The member representing Idemili North constituency Hon. Kingsley Azubuike Udemezue
while leading the motion at plenary on Tuesday, stated that section 14(2) B of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, affirmed that the protection of lives and properties remains the primary purpose of government.

According to Udemezue, “The aforementioned roads cuts across communities and popular markets in Idemili North LGA of which its socio-economic importance cannot be over emphasized;

“The dilapidated portion of the said roads has caused untold hardship to road users through recurrent loss of lives and properties through accidents and by the nefarious activities of the men of the underworld;

“If urgent palliative work is done on the roads, it will enhance the safety of road users and help to boost the socio-economic lives of the affected communities and Anambra State on the whole.

“Idemili north local government contributes to the revenue generation of the state and this road is economically important.

” Ugwu Nwasike-Abatete road has the International Building Materials Market, Federal High Court, Idemili LGA headquarters is located there and its always busy.

” Because of the bad nature of this roads, trailers fall on this road which causes conjection. This affects the commercial activities thia area.

” In the past two weeks, four persons have been kidnapped. Every week, people fall victims on this road. Containers no longer enter this market.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Ebuka Igwe, Hon. Fred Ezenwa, Hon. Jude Umennajiego, Hon. Jude Njobili, (Chief Whip), Hon. Tony Muobike, Hon. Chimezie Ikwunne, Hon. Chidiebere Ibemeka and the Majority leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme in their separate submission emphasized on the importance of the road

According to the lawmakers “Hoodlums has capitalize on this road and attack innocent people making it unsave. But if it is fixed, it will reduce the rate of kidnapping in the state.

“We have to commend our Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the road construction currently going on across the state and also urge him to fix this road so as to enhance traffic flow.
