Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to as a matter of necessity direct the Managing Director, Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to commence palliative work and rehabilitation of the failed portions of the Awka Etiti-Onusougu-Iseke Road and the Nnewi-Lasal Road, Ukpor.
The lawmakers at plenary on Tuesday, 17th February, through a motion sponsored by Minority Leader, Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, noted that a good network of roads is important for convenient travel and that effective maintenance is essential for sustaining user-friendly roads.
Hon. Akaegbobi who is the lawmaker representing Nnewi South two Constituency, stated that commerce and industry which is the mainstay of Nnewi’s economy are enhanced by a good network of roads;
Akaegbobi commended Prof. Soludo’s administration, which according to him has recorded unprecedented milestones in the kilometers of roads awarded for construction across the twenty-one (21) local government areas of the State.
“The present condition of the failed portion of the aforementioned roads has become a nightmare for drivers and commuters who ply the road daily; occasioning gridlock, accidents and frequent visits to mechanic workshops;
“If palliative work is carried out on the aforementioned portion of the failed roads, it will make for a free flow of traffic, minimize accidents and saves lives, decrease transportation cost and generally enhance economic growth in the area’. Akaegbobi submitted.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Honso Atuchukwu (Nnewi South One) Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Noble Igwe (Ogbaru One), Hon. Golden lloh (Ihiala two), Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South), Hon. Fred Ezenwa (Onitsha South one), Hon. Augustine Ike (Nnewi North) Deputy Majority Leader, Dr. Jude Akpua (Njikoka two), Hon. Jude Umennajiego (Onitsha South two), and Hon. Chidi Ibemeka (Njikoka one) in their separate speeches, emphasized on the importance of the roads.
“Very soon we will enter the raining season and if nothing is been done now in the roads, more demages will be done.
“The roads is gradually becoming a death trap and we hope Prof. Soludo who is a compassionate Governor will intervene, as a stitch in time, saves nine”.
