Anambra Assembly Calls On Soludo To Increase Security Surveillance In Onitsha metropolise

Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the commissioner of police and the commissioner for homeland affairs to increase security surveillance in Onitsha metropolise with special reference to Owerri road, ANN reports.

The member representing Ogbaru One constituency Rt. Hon. Chukwunonso Nobel Igwe while using order 10: rule 44, moved the motion and was seconded by member representing Anaocha two constituency Rt. Hon. Ejike Okechukwu.

Hon. Igwe lamented at the rate at which criminals operate and oppress people living in the street and plying the road within Onitsha Owerri road at will.

Igwe revealed that citizens of Anambra state are being dislodged of their belongings on daily bases with some having minor or major body inflected injuries.

The lawmaker expressed worries stating that if the rate at which the criminals operate is not check mated, there could be a state of lawlessness of which people might resort to self help.

Igwe said he is convinced that this criminals could be tracked and brought to book if enough incentives are provided for security operatives.

“Almost on daily bases, people are being robbed. Areas such as Boromi round about in Onitsha, once it is 6:00 pm, nobody passes that area.

“Onitsha – Owerri road is very close to army-check-point, yet, on daily bases, criminals attack and rob people.

“If you go round Onitsha, no police check point once it is 6:00 pm. This is a cause for us to worry. Why must it be so? Igwe asked.

“We understand that the governor is working soo hard to checkmate all this criminals within the rural areas but we need to also look at urban areas where other type of criminal activities happens”.

The member representing Nnewi South two constituency, Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, The member representing Onitsha South two constituency Hon. Jude Umennajiego. Member representing Onitsha North 2, Hon. Pat Okafor. Member representing Awka North Hon. Chimezie Johnmark. Member representing Anaocha two constituency Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, supported the motion.

Other lawmakers who supported the motion are; Member representing Awka South 1 Hon. Henry Mbachu. Member representing Onitsha South one, Hon. Fred Ezenwa. Member representing Ayamelum constituency, Hon Bernard Udemezue. Member representing Anambra West constituency, Hon. Patrick Uduoba. Member representing Ihiala One Hon. Jude Ogubili and the majority leader Hon. Ofodeme Ikenna in ther separate submissions, called for Increase in
security surveillance

” The issue of security has been a very big problem in Anambra state. Some people cannot go to their villages again.

” Onitsha – Owerri is a major place where Anambra state source for revenue comes from. How can we have security and people will be robbed during the day and also disrupt business activities. We need an immediate action in this road.

” The implication of the insecurity in Onitsha metropolis is affecting the economy of the state. Onitsha is now a nightmare.

” Secirity demands the effort of everyone that is why we are telling ndi-Anambra to “say something, if you see sonething”

“Tech should be applied in tracking those hoodlums and CCTV camera shoud be mounted at strategic points”.
