Anambra Assembly Chief Whip Resigned from his position

  • Observes valedictory session for late former honorable member.
  • Anambra to lose Federal poly, Oko to erosion

The Anambra state house of assembly plenary started with a brief opening prayer led by the speaker Hon Uche Okofor, and the votes and proceedings for the last plenary was checked and carried before moving to the main activity of the day.

Hon. Ezeudu Lawrence C. the Chief Whip of the Anambra 7th assembly resigned from his position as the chief Whip during the house of assembly plenary on Tuesday.

In a letter he sent to the honorable house of assembly Hon. Ezeudu Lawrence C. stated that the position of the Anambra state house of assembly chief whip is meant for the majority party, and him being a member of the minority party, he want to relinquish the position for the majority party.

According to the letter “as a member of the All Progressive Congress APC, I thought it wise to relinquish the position of chief whip, while wishing any person the majority party choses well”.

Hon Ezeudu Lawrence C. appreciated the whole members of the 7th house of assembly for their kind support during his service as the chief whip.

He said that he has been in the position for 7 years, he thanked the speaker Rt Hon. Uche Okafor and the members of the honorable house for trusting him with this job even when he left the majority party.

Hon. Ezeudu Lawrence C. in a special way thanked the deputy chief whip Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu – Nkemdiche for showing vigor through out his tenor as the chief whip of Anambra assembly. He stated that “ the combination of the both of them had done so marvelously well, the house of assembly never had any uprising”

He added that he will still support whoever the majority party of the 7th assembly choses.

Hon. Timothy Ifedioranma member representing Njikoka1 constituency commended the courage of the chief whip Hon Ezeudu Lawrence C. for his attitude towards the certainty of the standing order and as it relate to his position.

Hon. Timothy Ifedioranma said “ it takes a man of courage and it takes a man who also has boldness to do exactly what he did and also one who seeks peace and who wants the progress of the entire house to act as such”.

He also thanked the chief whip for a job well done adding that the house never had crises within the time that he held the position of the chief whip.

He stressed that respect is earned and not demanded and that Hon. Ezeudu has showcase in doing his job and he had done it diligently.

Hon. Smart Nonso Okafor member representing Nnewi north constituency also support the stand of Hon. Ifedioranma on the resignation of the chief whip.

He asked the chief whip why did he want to resign since the majority party did not raise a red flag about the issue, in responses Hon Ezeudu told him that he is not supposed to be the chief whip of the house where he did not belong to the majority party.

He commended the chief whip, stating that this singular act shows that he is a man of principle. And also commend the hon. Members of the house of assembly saying that the peace in the house of assembly shows that they are one, not minding the party any one belong to.

The Hon. Speaker Uche Okafor also commended the effort of Hon Ezeudu and said that it was with heavy heart that he reads the letter to the Hon house.

The Hon speaker also wish Hon Ezeudu well and congratulate him over his decision for resignation.

Meanwhile Anambra state house of assembly observed valedictory session for late Hon. Robinson Chukwuma Kelechi Ezeilo who represented Aguata 2 constituency between 1999 and 2003.

Hon members file pass was also observed for the late Hon. Member

Hon. Okechukwu Okoye reads tribute to his senior colleague late Hon. R.C.K Ezeilo.

He said in his tribute that late Hon. Ezeilo was born on the 28th day of November 1940, he said that late Ezeilo had his formal education from the year 1947 to1999 when he was conferred with a doctorate degree.

He described late Hon. Ezeilo as a teacher who brought development through teaching, he added that late Ezeilo served as an Assistant head master,  an English teacher, a lecturer and also the head of department in linguistic department Oko polytechnic.

He added that because of late Hon. Ezeilo’s quality he was elected to serve the people of Aguata 2 constituency in the second assembly between the year 1999 to 2003.

Hon. Cater Duke Nnamdi Umeh member representing Aguata 1 constituency also reads his own tribute for the late former Hon. Member. He said that if he has the power to bring the dead back to life, he will bring late Hon. Ezeilo back to life because he is a good man. He went ahead to tell the family of the deceased to take heart.

Hon Gody Ejiamike former Hon. Member that represented Onitsha 1 constituency between 1999 and 2003 urge everyone to do all the good you can, to someone when he is alive as he states his tribute for the late Hon. Ezeilo.

He also plead with the Anambra 7th assembly to pass a law that will carter for the welfare of the former honorable members.

Rt Hon. Uche Okafor the speaker on behalf of the 7th assembly commensurate with the entire Ezeilo family on the demise of late Hon. Ezeilo R.C.K  who use the instrument of the legislature to make giant strikes in the development of Anambra state and Aguata 2 constituency.

Dr Nelson Chukwuemeka a cousin of the deceased gave his vote of thanks to the 7th assembly for observing valedictory session in honor of his cousin.

And also in today’s plenary Hon. Emeka Aforka member representing Orumba north constituency calls the attention of the government on the heavy erosion which caused landslide around Oko polytechnic.

In his submission, he stated that no amount of money allocated to the school can help solve that erosion menace, he pleaded with the honorable house to help Oko community to fight this erosion.

The speaker of the house of assembly Hon. Uche Okafor instruct him to visit the area again and bring back situational report in the next plenary.

The Anambra state house of assembly was adjourned to Thursday the 17th day of February 2022.
