Awka, August,14(2023)The House Committee on public accounts, Anambra State House of Assembly has commenced the verification of the audited accounts of all the Ministries, Agencies in the State inline with section 128 of the Constitution of Nigeria as amended.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr Noble Igwe stated that the essence of the verification is to oversight and scrutinize the accounts of the State in the year 2022 as it’s applicable.
Igwe noted that it is necessary to verify the accounts of different ministries, what was appropriated and how it was spent.
“It is important to know if the funds given to the ministries was Judiciously utilized and if not,it will be stated in our report”, Mr Igwe submitted.
The ministry of lands was invited to a meeting with the House Committee on Public Accounts with respect to financial verification of the audited account of the ministry for the period of 1° January to 31% December, 2022 as submitted by the State Auditor-General.
The ministry was directed to furnish the committee with copies of the following documents:
i. Details of capital releases and recurrent expenditures of your office from every sub head for the year ended 31″ December 2022.
ii. List of capital projects executed; which includes the amount allocated, amount released, amount remaining; location and on going projects which shall include photograph of each project and evidence of due process for the award of contract for the year ended 31″ December, 2022.
iii. Contract agreement/Bill of quantity for the projects.
iv. Payment vouchers and cash books for the year ended 31° December, 2022.
v. Details of revenue generated by your office and evidence of remittance for the year 2022 vi. Board of cash survey and monthly reconciliation for the year 2022. vii. Cash flow statement and bank statement The above document must be submitted to the secretary of Committee on or before Friday 11″ August, 2023.
However, the ministry of lands didn’t meet up with the requirements of the committee and also failed to submit their documents before the said date.
The committee frowned at the action of ministry of lands and asked them to come back on Friday, 18th August to give the committee ample time to study their files(MOI)
