Anambra State House of Assembly at
plenary on Thursday, commends Governor Chukwuma Soludo on the reclaimation, rechannelization, and remediation of the erosion menace at Umugama Ire Village, Abba, in Njikoka, local government area.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the commendation came through a motion sponsored by the Deputy Majority Leader Dr. Jude Akpua.
Hon. Akpua who is the lawmaker representing Njikoka two constituency, noted that Umugama Ire Village Abba has historically suffered devastating gully erosion, resulting to loss of lives, land loss, threats to homes and farmlands, disruption of movement, economic hardship, and risks to human lives.
The lawmaker maintained that under Soludo administration, the ongoing and advanced comprehensive erosion control measures, including robust double drainage systems, rechannelization of water flows, reclaimation of affected areas, and remediation works are all aimed at preventing recurrence as well as ensure durability for resilience and sustainability.
“The reclaimation and rechannelization of flood at Umugama will surely transform the entire area, boost economic activities, minimize threat to lives and properties in line with the administration’s vision of making Anambra State a liveable and prosperous homeland
“The project will significantly improve connectivity, boost economic activities, enhance access to markets, schools, hospitals, and other services, and restore hope and security for residents and commuters in these communities as well as reconnect Njikoka and Dunukofia
Constituencies”.
“The erosion has killed five children. Previous administrations has come and gone without without any intervention. But this administration has compassion and his remembered us”. Akpua submitted.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Chidiebele Ibemeka (Njikoka one), Engr. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South), Hon Anayo Okpalacke (Aguata one), and Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi Anaocha one) in their separate submissions praised Governor Soludo for his intervention.
” We have every reason to commend Governor Soludo for his efforts in arresting gully erosions in Anambra.
“Anambra State has been passing through erosion menace and its not easy for the Governor to tackle this challenge”. The lawmakers stated.
The sitting which was presided by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze adjurned and to reconvene on Tuesday 17th February 2026.
