Anambra Assembly Committee On Education Pays Familiarization Visits To COOU Vice-Chancellor ‘Omenugha’

Members of the Anambra State House of Assambly Committee on Education on Wednesday paid a familiarization visit to the acting Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, (COOU) Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha at her office in Igbariam campus.

Chairman of the Committee on Education Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke along side his members during the visit, assured Prof. Omenugha that they are always ready and willing to partner with the institution in achieving her goals.

Hon. Okpalaeke who is the member representing Aguata one constituency while speaking on behalf of the 8th assembly, congratulated Omenugha on her appointment as the acting VC, stating that it was not by accident.

“During your tenue as the commissioner for education in Anambra state, you changed the narrative and we are not surprised that since your assumption into this prestigious office, you have really transformed the system.

” We have seen how you have been moving around through applying the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) module of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in order to move this institution forward through your visits to influential individuals who have been cooperative.

“As lawmakers, we are ready to collaborate and partner with you by making sure that this institution becomes better than it was.

” If there is anyway the committee on education can assist in making you actualize your dream, let us know”. Okpalaeke said.

Responding, Prof. Omenugha in her speech, extended her heartfelt appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for appointing her as the VC of the institution. 

Highlighting the University,’s upward trajectory, Omenugha declared that COOU is on a dynamic journey.

She urged the lawmakers to assist in attracting more investors, encouraged the sharing of ideas to propel the institution farward, emphasized on the transformative power of ideas and promised to work together with like minds so as to broaden the Universitys horizons and foster a collective vision. 

The VC expressed her ambition to rebrand COOU as the premier institution in Nigeria and emphasized her commitment to protecting students from exploitation.

Angel Network News recall that Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha on Tuesday, December 5th 2023, took over office as the acting Vice-Chancellor from Prof. Greg Nwakoby.

Other Committee members who accompanied Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke to the visit includes; Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South), Hon. Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru one), Hon. Chidi Ibemeka (Njikoka one), Hon. Barnard Udemezue (Ayamelum) and Hon. Fred Ezenwa (Onitsha South one)

The management of the University who received the committee members on education are: deputy vice-chancellor (academics) Prof Osita, deputy vice-chancellor (Administration) Prof. Aghanti, Acting Liberian Dr. Mrs Uche and Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor.
