Anambra Assembly Committee on works commend Mr Governor, Prof. Soludo over ongoing roads Projects in the State

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on works has commended the state government on different ongoing road projects in Onitsha metropolis.

This came as a result of the oversight function carried out by the committee by the honourable member representing Orumba South constituency, Mr Emmanuel Nwafor and his committee members on October 27.

Mr Emmanuel said some of the roads in Akpaka has been asphalted while some are still on the first line base but we believe by the end of the year, they are going finish it before the second phase which should run into a bridge.

‘The contractor handling the Akpaka road is presiding for a bridge to be located at Akpaka road connecting Nsugbe, which is a good suggestion having visited the site

‘Due to the rain and flood, the bridge is apt to help both run off and flow of traffic. The drains and structural designs are still under consideration

‘We have given our support that the bridge should be erected. Without a bridge here, the road will be unsafe and whatever we do on this Akpaka road will be a waste

‘The bridge will fly from Akpaka to about 2km to Nsugbe, it’s not a small project. The quality of work done is okay and commendable, we have seen both the covert and carriage ways for traffic’, Mr Emmanuel submitted.

The chairman noted that this period is the ideal time for the bridge to be erected because the rains has abeited and dry season is setting in.

The honourable member representing Onitsha North 2, where Akpaka is located, Mr Patrick Okafor expressed his gratitude to the State government saying the road is very strategic and important to his constituents.

‘At the completion of this particular road project, am sure people in this area, Marine, Akpaka, Nsugbe, 333 and other suburbs will be grateful to the Governor and give him massive support

‘This particular road links Marine, Akpaka to Nsugbe in Anambra East, all the people living at the college of education Nsugbe along 333 road will bypass 333 junction which is always a problematic junction especially rush hours’, Mr Patrick asserted.

The senior marketing manager of Aptak engineering company, Mr Shaw said they are working on a total number of 7.79km road. From Akpaka to Nsugbe is 3.34km road and they are working on the drainage too.

‘We are confident we will finish this road by the end of December. Our challenge is that we proposed a bridge to the State government and it’s very necessary because the back flow of river Niger making it unaccessible for the people of Akpaka, Nsugbe and other communities

‘If our proposal is approved, we will do it faster because the dry season is here already because our major challenge was the weather’, Mr Shaw confirmed.

The honourable members representing Anaocha 2 constituency, Mr Ejike Okechukwu, Mr Patrick Udoba (Anambra West) and Mr Golden Iloh (Ihiala 2) who are members of the committee were present during the oversight.

The officers report from the ministry of information.
