The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on works visited the ongoing road project at Silas works been handled by Rojel limited.
The chairman of the committee Mr Emmanuel Nwafor representing Orumba South constituency is impressed with the level of work and personnel working at the site.
‘We saw obstructions, the drainage systems are blocked which requires a lot of distilling in the area. We advice the contractor to factor it in the variation of his job since it’s not part of the initial arrangement
‘It will be a futile effort if distilling is not carried out around the area, so we will help in every possible way. We have given our support to make sure all the required areas are worked on’, Mr Emmanuel said.
The honourable member representing Onitsha South 1, Mr Fredrick Ezenwa confirmed that the only solution to blockage of drainage system is distilling.
‘Distilling sacamore drainages here is very important especially with the construction of roads. Because it has not been distilled, people now use it as a refuse dump’, Mr Fredrick said.
The contractor handling Silas works Greek road Onitsha township roads, Mr Onyemelukwe said they are doing 2.6km road with a duration of five months.
‘The effective time of commencement was August and we are about 30% completion. We are sure we will speed up now that rain has abeited while looking forward to meeting deadline
‘The rains and flood was a great setback but we were able to make significant progress. We also have problem of flooding from the discharge drains that are beyond our own scope
‘We have distilled all our own drainages during the rains, we did it for two months but the water channels that discharge water are all blocked.
Other members of the committee include; the honourable members representing Anambra West, Mr Patrick Udoba, Mr Ejike Okechukwu (Anaocha 2), Mr Golden Iloh (Ihiala 2) were all present during the visit.
