Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to dirrect the commissioner for local government, chieftancy and town union matters to investigate the break down of law and order happening in Ifitedunu with the intent to persucute the perpetrators of this act in line with the vision of making Anambra a prosperable and livably homeland.
The member representing Dunukofia Constituency Hon. Chuks Azotani at Plenary on Thursday moved a motion of public importance over the dehumanising act where the President General (PG) of Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Council Areas Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha was beat up and humiliated.
” We have been having alot of frackers regarding the position of the President General of Ifitedunu.
“Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been working soo hard to make sure their is peace in Anambra state and if this issue is not corrected, it will cause more issues.
“The video where the elected president of Ifitedunu was beaten and harresed is disturbing. The matter need to be investigated so that the prepotrators will be brought to book to avoid futher occurance”. Hon. Azotani submitted
Supporting the motion, Hon. Patrick Uduoba, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu. Manority leader, Hon. Ofodeme Ikenna, Hon. Golden Iloh, Hon. Obi Nweke, Chief Whip, Hon. Jude Njobili, Hon. Jude Umennajiego, Hon. Patrick Okafor, Hon. Tony Muobike and Hon. Dauglas Egbona supported the motion.
” How can an elected PG of a community be manhandled and assulted in such manner. People should not take laws into their hands. We should always learn to obey constituted authorities.
” If the community has lost intrest, hope or confidence on the PG, their should be constitutional method of removing him. This calls for urgent attention and intervention.
“If we fail to do the needful, it will repeat in our various communities. As lawmakers, we are here to protect ndi Anambra.
” The police and vigilentee where at the inccidence and did not stop them. The commissioners for Homeland affairs need to confirm to use if the vigilentees are his boys.
“It is either the Police and the vigilentees are involved or someone is inpersinating them.
” If this hoodlums succeed in chasing the PG out of office, then no body is save. The process of removing a PG is always in accordance with the constitution of the town union.
“If anything happens to the PG, the peace and orderliness in the community might be affected. A panel of inquary should be set up.
“If nothing is done about it, other community will do same to their PG. All the people that appeared on the trending video must be brought to book.
” The police should investigate and come up with a report and those involved should face the penalties”.
Anambra Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtoochukwu Udeze in his submission condermed the act. He maintained that in this era when Anambra is fighting to have a livable environment, such act is not encouraging.
