Anambra Assembly has invited the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, leadership of Anti-touting Onitsha zone, Special Adviser to the Governor on market, Chairman Ogbogwu market Onitsha, Chairman Bridge Head Onitsha and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security for a crucial meeting with the house committee on Homeland and Boundary Matters on Thursday 22 February 2024 at 10:am for clarification.
The member representing Ihiala two constituency Hon. Golden Iloh at plenary, through a matter of urgent public importance, brought to the notice of the house the killing of Mr. Arinze Obinadike, a graduate of Political Science at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, who hails from Okija and resides in Ogbaru and learning trade in Ogbogkwu in Onitsha.
Hon. Iloh lamented over the atack by the anti- touting security at the bridge head in onitsha on the 16th February 2024 which claimed the life of Mr. Arinze.
“The situation has attracted serious tention and questions has been raised on the use of fire arm by the anti-touting security Onitsha xone
” As the people’s representative, we have to call for more investigation and bringing the culprit to book.
“Section 14:2b of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended stated that it is the duty of government to ensure the security of life and properties and the walfare of its citizens.
“The life of every onye Anambra is important and valid and the culprits must be brought to book”. Hon. Iloh stated
Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Fred Ezenwa (Onitsha South one), Hon. Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru one) and Hon. Augustine Ike (Nnewi North) condemned the killing of Mr. Arinze.
” This is a very sad incident for ndi Anambra. We don’t need to lose any soul in the cause of our duty. The action of the Anti-touting squard calls for urgent attention and we need to check-mate their activities.
” The Anti-touting squard need to operate within the guardians of the law. Nobody should take laws into their hands.
“We extend our condolence to the bereaved family and may the soul of Arinze rest in peace. Amen” The lawmakers prayed.
Anambra Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze while condemning the act, commended Hon. Golden Iloh for bringing up the issue before the house,
” I condole with the family of Mr. Arinze Obinadike. I feel the pains they are going through and by the end of our investigation, we will get the full details”.
The Speaker urged the acting Clerk of the house Mr. Okechukwu Nwobi to write a letter to all concerns persons for them to appear before the committee on Thursday by 10: am.
The house adjourned to Wednesday February 21, 2024.
