Anambra Assembly Confirms Dr. Ezeka Uwaeme as ASHIA Executive Secretary

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Ezeka Augustine Uwaeme as the new Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA).

Dr. Uwaeme was screened and confirmed during plenary on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze.

During the screening exercise, Dr. Uwaeme responded to questions from lawmakers, including the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Honourable Tony Muobuike. He pledged to sustain the agency’s progress by consolidating and expanding the achievements of his predecessor to improve access to healthcare services across Anambra State.

Following a review of his credentials and presentation, members of the Assembly unanimously approved his nomination.

Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeze commended Dr. Uwaeme for what he described as a professional performance during the screening process and urged him to demonstrate dedication and commitment in his new position.

Rt. Hon. Udeze also encouraged the new ASHIA boss to work closely with the House Committee on Health to ensure quality healthcare delivery for registered beneficiaries.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Uwaeme expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for nominating him and thanked members of the 8th Assembly for confirming his appointment.

Speaking with House correspondents in an interview after the confirmation, the new Executive Secretary disclosed that ASHIA is planning a workshop aimed at educating hospitals and strengthening healthcare service delivery across the state.

He further revealed that 179 hospitals are currently enrolled as private healthcare providers under the agency and are listed on ASHIA’s official platform.
