Anambra Assembly Encourage Investors, Actualization Of Think Home Philosophy

The Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Industry, Commissioner for Agriculture and the Commissioner for land to mobilize, acquire and gazette land for an industrial/agricultural hub in all the 21 local government areas.

the lawmakers through a motion sponsored by the member representing Ihiala one constituency Hon. Golden Iloh, also encourage investors, actualization of think home philosophy and possibly create jobs for teaming youths.

Hon. Iloh who is the House Committee Chairman on Agriculture in his submission said that industrialization and agriculture remain the major fulcrum towards the development and advancement of any given State.

In his words “The high cost of commodities in the State is as a result of low productivity in terms of industrialization and agriculture to meet the demand of ndi Anambra which has invariably affected the whole country as well as the value of naira against the dollar.

” The few land in some L.G.As have been seriously trespassed by the community members and that unemployment and hunger in the country has worsened the security situation of most States thereby plunging youths into banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism and many more into abject poverty;

” There is need to move Anambra State from consumption to production, and to place the State at the forefront of emancipating itself from the present economic quagmire the country is facing as well as supporting the country towards national development.

“The establishment of gazzetted industrial/agricultural hub in all the LGAs of Anambra State will go a long way to attract indigenous and other investors as well as to create job opportunities for the teaming youths.

” We are not saying that government should chase out people or forcefully take their land, but government can help in mobilizing and aquire some areas and then provide certain amenities and facilities that will enable farmers produce enough to feed ndi Anambra.

“This will create job opportunities and also attract and encourage those outside the state to invest back home”. Hon. Iloh submited

Speaking in support of the motion. Deputy Majoroty Leader, Hon. Jude Akpua (Njikoka two), Deputy Minority Leader Hon. Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru One), Chief Whip, Hon. Jude Ngobili (Ihiala One), Hon. Tony Muobike (Aguata two) Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi (Anaocha One), Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu (Nnewi South one), Hon. Kingsley Udemezue (Idemili North) and Majority Leader Hon Ikenna Ofodeme (Ekwusigo) in there seperate submissions, commended the sponsor of the motion.

“Anambra State and Nigeria is currently facing food insecurity and if we actually want to get it right, we must create an avenue were people will have land for cultivation.

“Hunger is one of the biggest problems we have now. Many youths are unemployed.

“Governor Chukwuma Soludo is already doing alot in trying to make food sufficient to ndi Anambra. Recently, the state government distributed seedlings. It is commendable. ” The lawmakers submited.

Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze said the essence of the motion is to encourage government to acquire more land for the interest of the public.

“There are alot of investors that want to come into Anambra state, including farmers who are looking for land to farm especially those at flood prone areas. Such persons can get land else where through government policies.

The Speaker urged the various Committees of the House to encourage Commissioners to locate areas which government can acquire land.

The house adjurned and to reconvene on Wednesday July 31st.
