Anambra Assembly Intervens Over Nkpor Market Leadership Tussle, Calls For Election

Anambra State House of Assembly at plenary on Tuesday, ordered for the
desolve of the continous Caretaker Committee of Nkpor Butchers Association, immediately, calling for immediate election with fairness and justice.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, after the consideration of a report from the Committee on Public Petitions title “gross violation of the rules and regulations at Nkpor Butchers Association, Nkpor Market and constant conduct likely to cause breach of peace and order by the appointed caretaker Chairman, his exco and elder brother” gave the ruling after Hon. Nobel Igwe moved a motion for adoption of the report and was seconded by Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South).

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that, the Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Obi Nweke in his submission, explained that after some findings, it was discovered;

“That the rule of the Association states that only registered members are allowed to slaughter cows inside the market so as to cnable the Association to know who is legal, when a stolen cow is slaughtered, when a dead cow is being sold and by who.

” That the Secretary of the carctaker committee and financial secretary, Mr. Chika Obasi and Cyprian Ngoka are not registered members of Nkpor Butchers Association but are allowed to do business there.

The Committee recomended that the acting Chairman of the market should
return and restore all the shops been held by the present chairman to those who lawfully paid for it especially those of the petitioner.

They also maintained that the office of the Chairman constantly occupied by people from Enugu state is wrong.
