A bill for a law to provide for the management, Protection and sustainability of the environment in Anambra state and for connected purposes has been passed into law.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
after several considerations and amendments at the committee of whole, Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo constituency Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme moved a motion for the third reading and passage of the bill, and was seconded by the member representing Nnewi North Constituency Hon. Augustine Ike.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze commended the lawmakers for their active participation in making sure that the bill was passed.
According to the Speaker, the first reading of the Environmental Bill was on November 22, 2023, and that for the past six months, the House has been working on it.
Anambra Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme said the environmental law will help in checkmating the activities of projects in the state inorder to stop things like building collapse and that the bill will save the lives of ndi Anambra.
The house adjurned and to reconvene on Wednesday June 12th 2024.
