Anambra Assembly Pass ‘Trafficking In Persons, Enforcement And Administration Bill’ Into Law

Anambra Assembly Pass ‘Trafficking In Persons, Enforcement And Administration Bill’ Into LawA law to prohabit trafficking In persons, enforce and administer measure against trafficking and for related matters has been read for the third time and passed into law at the Anambra State House of Assembly.

The lawmakers after consideration of report of the joint committee on Judiciary chaired by Hon. Patrick Okafor (Onitsha North 2) and committee on Women and Social Welfare, chaired by Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi (Anaocha one) on “Trafficking In Persons, (Prohabition) Enforcement And Administration Bill 2023″, adopted it as a working document.

Sponsor of the bill Hon. Patrick Okafor said the objective of the law is to provide effective and comprehensive legal and institutional framework
for the prohibition and prevention, detention, persecution and punishment of human trafficking in Anambra state.

” This law will protect victims of human trafficking, promote and facilitate International cooperation in order to meet the objectives. Okafor stated

Angel Network News reports that the deputy majority leader Hon Jude Ejikeme Akpua (Njikoka 2) moved a motion for the bill to be read for the third time and was seconded by the Minority leader Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi (Nnewi South one).

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze appreciated the members of the joint committee and the entire lawmakers for their commitment and dedication.

” As an institution, this is a part of our job and we are doing it the right way”. Udeze said.

Speaking in an interview after plenary, the Deputy Minority Whip Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi said the fight against trafficking in persons is a collective responsibility.

According to Ogbuefi “The girl child are mostly victims of trafficking in persons which involves alot of crime such as genda violence, sexual assult, molestation and am happy that today, it has been passed into law.

” This law will be a deterent to offenders and collaborators in violence against children and women and men also.

” Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Everyone should know about the law because this is a great warning to all the pepatrators and all who will violate this act.

“It is a manace revaging our society and its time to put an end to it because the relevant agencies have been empowered to enforce this law and i hope that all the culprit are brought to book judiciously.
