Anambra Assembly Resumes Plenary As Minority Party Principal Officers Emerges

Anambra State House of Assembly on Tuesday 11th July held the first plenary after the inauguration of the 8th assembly on June 12.

Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his speech welcome the lawmakers to their first sitting, urging them to brace up for the task ahead.

“The expectations are indeed very high and i have no doubt, with our respective trainings and experience, we will deliver on our mandate. Our collective resolve is to contribute meaningfully to the peace, unity, growth and development of the state through lawmaking, oversight and effective representation.

“I call on all stakeholders and the entire citizenry to give the 8th assembly the necessary support to perform creditably.

“Puntuality is said to be the soul of business and i want to state categorically that the 8th assembly will be commencing plenary each day at 10:00 in the morning and will also be sitting more regularly in order to give duo consideration to legislative activities.

“I called on the staff of the legislature to take note of our timing and key into the new order to improve productivity.

Udeze at plenary, read the letter from the coalitions of the minority parties of Anambra 8th assembly, on the list of nominated principals officers.

The Speaker while taking cognizance of order 8, rule 29:1 and also rule 29:2g of the standing orders, which stated that;

“In appointment of principals officers of the house, preference shall be given to members with legislative experience. Members from minority parties shall nominate from amongst them, the minority leader, deputy whip, deputy minority leader and deputy minority whip”.

According to the list sent by the coalition of minority parties, the following members where appointed as principal Officers.

Minority Leader – Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi

Minority Leader – Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi(YPP).

Minority Whip – Hon Paul Chukwuka (LP).

Deputy Minority Leader – Douglas Egbona (PDP)

Deputy Minority Whip Hon. Ogbuefi Felicia Nkechi (LP)
