Anambra Assembly: Security Of Lives, Properties Should Be Considered Before Approving Installation Of Cooking Gas Stations

Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and other relevant agencies to ensure that security of lives and properties are usually considered before approving sites for installation of LPG (Cooking Gas) stations that are presently being indiscriminately installed across the state and review existing once sighted at residential areas.

The member representing Anaocha two constituency Rt. Hon. Ejike Okechukwu who sponsored the motion in his submission said the demand for LPG (Cooking Gas) has been drastically on the rise due to the high cost of DPK (Kerosene).

According to Hon. Okechukwu “Due to the increase in demand for LPG (Cooking Gas), investors of all kinds now develop interest in establishing LPG stations across the State;

” Most of these investors do not comply with security and safety measures while installing these LPG stations, thereby endangering the lives and properties of ndi Anambra.

“If proper regulatory measures are not taken by the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and other relevant agencies like the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, the resultant effect in case of emergency may be catastrophic, cataclysmic, calamitous and disastrous.

Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Ebuka Igwe, Chief Whip Hon. Jude Ngobili, Hon Golden lloh, Hon Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon Jude Umennajiego, Hon Tony Muobike, Minority Whip Hon. Paul Obu and Hon. Obi Nweke urged the state government to do the needful.

” This is proactive and a life saving motion. Nobody knows who will be the victim. The safty standard of the LPG (Cooking Gas) should be reveiewed the necessary things needed to guild against gas explosion.

” We have witnessed gas explosion in Nnewi where close to hundrend lives was lost.

“Last year (2022) there was a gas explosion in Boromi roundabout and it affected buildings that are about 200 meters away.

“We live in an environment with a hot temperature and once it gets to 30 degrees, the installation should be watched, monitored and regulated. Water spyers should be available.

“If any of this gas explode, most of the building will be affected. A stitch in time saves nine”. The lawmakers submitted.
