The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has
charged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to always contribute their quota to ensure good governance by coming up with ideas on how the legislature can serve the state better.
Udeze stated that the eight assembly will patner NUJ Anambra State Council in enacting quality laws that will guarantee good governance of the state.
The Speaker gave the assurance when members of executive and some stakeholders of the union paid him a courtesy visit at the state legislative complex in Awka.
While commending journalists for being alive to their responsibilities, the speaker explained that Anambra State Government places priority on the welfare of workers by working towards creating an enabling environment to enhance their productivity.
Rt. Hon. Udeze also disclosed that the house of assembly is in the process of enacting laws that will checkmate anti-touting in Anambra, plug revenue leakages and improve local government administration even as he called for constant training and retraining of the state legislators to enable them discharge their legislative duties creditably.
In his remarks, the Chairman NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu appreciated Rt. Hon. Udeze for being transparent in the leadership of the house and for the ongoing renovation works at the legislative complex of the House.
Dr. Odogwu disclosed that they came to inform him that the Council is planning a symposium between NUJ and members of Anambra State House of Assembly on better ways to report the activities of the House and to hold a capacity building workshop for members of the union in Anambra State and solicited his support in those reģards.
The NUJ Chairman maintained that journalists are not adversaries but partners in progress of Anambra State as the activities of the NUJ in the last two years has been in support of government activities.
In a vote of thanks, a member of the Union, Comrade Okechukwu Obeta stressed the need for Anambra State Government to support the union with monthly subvention as it will enable them to organize constant training workshop for members of the union.
