Anambra State government has condemned the dehumanising act where the President General (PG) of Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Council Areas
Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha was beat up and humiliated.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne while reacting over the unfortunate incident, stressed that the Soludo-led administration has zero-tolerance to violence, unruliness and calumny against any Anambra indigene, advocating that in case of any issues, due process should be followed, especially as it concerns community affairs.
Nwabunwanne regretted the situation where an individual in Ifitedunu will assume the position of a warlord and feel that he owns the community and condemned the situation where the stakeholder allegedly went to Ifitedunu market, destroyed ongoing development projects and beat up the President General and his executives.
He added that even after the PG lodged a complaint to the DPO and an investigation ensued, they were beat up as shown in the video footage, emphasizing that the matter had been reported to the security agencies.
The Commissioner who added that law and order is a strong pillar of the present administration assured that justice must definitely prevail and take its course.
He appealed to major stakeholders in Anambra communities who feel that things are not going well in their communities to step forward with formal legitimate complaints, rather than take laws into their hands, pointing out that no single individual is bigger than the government.
While enumerating other efforts of the state government through the Ministry to include restoration of peace in most communities of the state, ongoing renovation of L.G.A, ongoing law piece to differentiate between the office of Traditional Rulers and Presidents General to assemble them under one roof, among others, Commissioner Nwabunwanne assured that efforts will be intensified by Governor Soludo’s administration to keep making life meaningful for the masses.
