Anambra Commissioner Warns Against Politicising Town Union Leadership

The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Barrister Vin Ifeanyi Ezeaka, has cautioned communities against politicising Town Union leadership positions, stressing that such offices should be used for service and community development rather than political influence.

Barr. Ezeaka gave the warning while receiving the leadership of the Ugbenu Town Union at his office in Awka. He urged President-Generals and executive members of town unions to view their positions as opportunities to promote the welfare of their communities.

According to the Commissioner, Town Unions are established to foster development, unity, and collective progress. He noted that political interests and unhealthy rivalries within such bodies often create divisions and threaten peace and stability in communities.

Commending the peaceful atmosphere in Ugbenu community, Ezeaka encouraged the Town Union leadership to sustain harmony among stakeholders while intensifying efforts to attract government projects and other developmental initiatives to the area.

The Commissioner also reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Chukwuma Soludo to supporting community-driven projects that improve the living conditions of residents and address developmental challenges across the state.

“The Soludo administration remains committed to supporting initiatives and projects that will positively impact the lives of Ndi Anambra and provide solutions to developmental gaps in our communities,” he said.

Earlier, the President-General of Ugbenu Town Union, Ephraim Madu, congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment, describing it as well deserved. He explained that the visit was aimed at familiarising the Union with the Commissioner and seeking his guidance on community affairs and grassroots administration.

The Secretary-General of the Union, Ekpone Francis Emeka, praised Ezeaka’s experience in community leadership and local government administration, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver on his mandate.

Also speaking, Samson Ojo described Ugbenu as a peaceful and progressive community built on the principles of equity, justice, and brotherhood. He expressed optimism that the Commissioner would strengthen peace-building and conflict-resolution efforts in communities facing disputes across Anambra State.
