Anambra Community ‘Eziowelle’ Elects New Leadership

Eziowelle Improvement Union (EIU) has elect Dr. Julian Obiora as the President Genera (PG) of the Community located in Idemili North Local Government Area.

Dr. Obiora and his team will pilot the affairs of EIU for a tenure of four years.

Other members of the executive committee elected alongside Dr Obiora, were: Tochukwu Ide as secretary, Emeka Anyaegbu as financial secretary and other positions.

The election which also produced the new executive of the union was conducted using open ballot system with delegates attending from the branches of the union at home and in the diaspora.

It was witnessed by delegations from the Ministry Local Governments, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs; Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU and Security agencies.

ANN gathered that the office of the President General was zoned to Ubulu village, Eziowelle as according to the community, the village had not produced a President General before in the community.

Thus, Ubulu village therefore presented Dr Obiora and Mr Izuchukwu Akuche to the community for voting and at the end, Dr Obiora polled 105 votes to win the election against Mr Akuche’s 38 votes.

Speaking shortly after the election, the Transition Committee Chairman, Idemili North Council Area, Mr Stanley Nkwoka described the election as free, fair and credible, praising Ndi Eziowelle for the orderly manner they displayed which shows that they have really embraced peace and unity.

Mr Nkwoka further challenged the entire community to align themselves with the Solution agenda of the present adminstration, support the new executive as witnessed during the election and profer solutions when things seem to go wrong and adopt dialogue in the face of disagreements.

Addressing the general assembly, the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Chief Titus Akpudo commended the electoral committe for working diligently to ensure the success of the election, stating that nothing gives one more happiness than handing over to a successor that will deliver.

Chief Akpudo said that the outcome of the election has punctured the impression being given by a few individuals who refused to join hands to develop their community.

He praised the traditional ruler of Eziowelle, Igwe Michael Okonkwo-Etusi, the Commissioner for Local Governments, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne and Governor Chukwuma Soludo for bringing “solution” to the lingering town union crisis in Eziowelle which is the reason they are celebrating peace and unity in the community today.

The leader of the delegation from the Ministry of Local Governments, Chieftaincy And Community Affairs, Mr Ikechukwu Mgbike, expressed happiness with the peaceful, credible, transparent and conduct of the exercise and asked the winners to know they have been elected to work for the community and that they will sacrifice and put in all they have for the success of the community.

Contributing, the leader of ASATU delegation, Mr Ebuka Onuorah asked Ndi Eziowelle to keep holding on to peace, unity and oneness even as he challenged the new President General, Dr Obiora to carry each and everyone along as a way to move the community forward.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr Laz Okafor maintained that the day is historic and history will beckon on them to make Eziowelle better, asking all parties to come together to promote unity, oneness and progress so as to have they all can call Eziowelle their own.

Appreciating the community for finding him worthy for the position, Dr Obiora, said it was his desire to serve and that he will put his wealth of knowledge to work for Ndi Eziowelle, starting with reconciliation mission, infrastructural development, youths empowerment, and promoting the welfare of the women and children and the indigent.

Furthermore, Mr Akuche who conceded defeat congratulated Dr Obiora saying he will join hands with him to lift Eziowelle to an enviable height and pledged his total support.
