Mr Sunday Eric Nweke has been elected unopposed as the President General of Isiagu Town Union, ITU, in Awka South Council Area of Anambra state.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Nweke emerged after polling 266 valid votes cast in the election supervised by staff of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.
Speaking, the newly elected President General, Mr. Nweke thanked the community for expressing love and solidarity with their votes for positive changes in Isiagu community geared towards complementing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development agenda in rural areas of the state, assuring that he will hit the ground running with his transformation agenda.
Others elected unopposed include Mr Onyebuchi Nwafor – Vice President General, Jerry Nwafor – Assistant Secretary General, Lucky Ezenwa – Treasurer, Nelson Okafor – Provost 2, and Sunday Owah – Public Relations Officer.
Meanwhile, Mr Francis Nwude garnered 141 votes to be elected Secretary General; beating his closest opponents, Mr Chima Okolo who polled 115 votes, and Mr Elijah Christian Okoli who polled 14 votes.
The union also elected Mr Crescent Chibuife as Financial Secretary with 145 votes to beat his opponent, Mr Chinedu Okafor who got 127 votes, while Mr Ekene Odogwu polled 156 votes to be elected Provost 1 as against his opponent, Mr Chukwudi Abazu who polled 115 votes.
In their separate speeches, some of the community stakeholders, including a former President General of the Community, Mr. Udechukwu Nnebedum, the Youth Chairman, Mr. Collins Nweke, and the Secretary of the electoral committee, Comrade Uzor Ekemezie expressed delight with the conduct of the election, which they said, in totality, reflected the desire and aspirations of the people and thanked the state government for its positive interest in the community which has brought about rapid step in the right direction.
