After so many years of division and vacuum, Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government Area has elected a new Chairman for the youth wing of her town union in the person of Mr Chioma Ekemezie.
The election which was conducted by the Election Committee headed by Comrade Chekwube Okoli used Option A4 and was supervised by the Anambra State Ministry of Youth Development and Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU and saw to the emergence of a new and substantive leadership for the youth wing
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Hon. Ekemezie defeated his opponent, Mr. Ekene Igwenagu after polling 145 votes against Mr Igwenagu’s 141 votes.
Other members of the newly elected executive are Mr. Obinna Odogwu – Vice-chairman, Mr Collins Nweke– Secretary, Mr. Chukwualuka Okoli – Assistant Secretary, and Mr Chinedu Udeagha – Financial Secretary.
Ekemezie and his executive committee will pilot the affairs of the youth wing of the community for the next two years as provided in the Constitution of the community.
The Treasurer is Mr. Chimezie Okonkwo, Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Owah, Provost One, Mr. Calistus Nwankwo Provost Two, Mr. Chibuike Okolo and Social Welfare, Mr. Onyedika Okoli.
In a sermon before the commencement of the election, an Anglican priest from Yola Diocese, Rev. Ifeanyichukwu Mmaduakonam asked for collective support for the new leadership irrespective of emerges the winner as the progress of the community is more important than any personal gains and charged all to embrace peace and unity as they are the future of the town.
Speaking shortly after the declaration of the winner, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Martin Agbili and Secretary General of ASATU Youth Wing, Comrade Orstager Chinweuba congratulated the new executive, telling them that their emergence proves that they command respect of the youths of community and charged them to accommodate and embrace everyone and respect constituted authority in the community and the state.
The President General of the town. Mr. Udechukwu Nnebedum appealed to the new executive to hit the ground running in reconciling aggrieved parties of the wing and insisted that brotherly love, devoid of hatred and acrimony is the fastest way of reuniting the youths and catching up on lost grounds.
Responding, the new Chairman, Mr Ekemezie flanked by his executive assured that under his watch, he will prioritize the welfare and peaceful co-existence of the community and used the opportunity to extend hands of fellowship to all Ndi Isiagu to drive the future of the town on global map.
