Nando Development Union (NDU) in Anambra East Local Government Area, has elected Mr. Okechukwu Uwadiegwu as President General.
The election, which had all eligible voters from the eight villages of the community casting their votes, through a secret ballot system, saw Engr Uwadiegwu poll 989 votes to defeat the incumbent President General, Mr. Christopher Nwakor, who garnered 807 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Engr Uwadiegwu thanked Ndi Nando for believing in him, assuring them that he would not betray their trust but would work diligently to meet expectations and bring development to the community.

Tony Ifejika was also elected Secretary General, alongside other members of the executive, during the election monitored by state government officials, the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), and security personnel.
In his speech, the team leader from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Mike Okechukwu, said the exercise was free, fair, and credible, and urged the union to review and amend its constitution to enable delegate voting, noting that the process observed on ground was tedious and obsolete.
Chief Okechukwu further advised the new President General, Mr Uwadiegwu, to make peace within the community and resolve age-long disputes affecting its development.
The National President of the Nando United Brothers Association, Chief Martin Chukwuka, asserted that for the first time elections were peaceful in Nando due to the involvement of the association, even as he advised the new President General to focus on development, culture, welfare, and the security of lives and property of ndi Nando.
A former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly who represented Anambra East Local Government Area and an indigene of the town, Pharmacist Obinna Emeneka, commended the electoral committee and ndi Nando for participating in the process, saying the community had embarked on a new journey of hope, and appealed to Engr Uwadiegwu to ensure that government presence is felt in the community.
In their separate speeches, the Deputy Mayor of Anambra East Local Government Area, Dr Martina Nwawube, and a movie director, Chief Chimdi Chiama, said the peaceful election signalled development and unity.
