Nkitaku Village in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, today took to the streets of Nkwo Market in the community to protest the demolition of their ongoing construction of shops meant to house the Building Materials Market,
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the Chairman of Nkitaku Village, Agulu, Mr. Basil Emegwamuo, who led the group, lamented that their challenges began after they sold a portion of their land to an individual in the community, who, they alleged, later started claiming ownership of the portion where they are constructing the new Building Materials Market to enable their relocation from the Nwagu axis, where they currently operate, to ensure easy flow of traffic.
According to Mr. Emegwamuo, the individual had allegedly demolished the shops before and went ahead to demolish part of them again, even after a series of meetings held with him urging him to stay clear of their land.
An investor and indigene of the village, Mr. Frank Anyaeche, expressed regret that he returned from overseas to invest in his hometown in response to the government’s call to bring investments home but is now facing hardship due to alleged frustration by certain individuals, calling on the government to intervene so they can complete the shops and begin their businesses.
Reacting to the development, the President-General of Agulu Town Union, Mr. Emmanuel Ibeneme, and the Youth Leader of the community, Mr. Eric Mmaduagwu, condemned the act in its entirety, describing it as a waste of people’s efforts, while assuring that they are working hard to bring the issue under control.
